One week, 20 inches and 900 miles

I find myself sitting here in a cold office many miles from home again this morning. I am content with this knowing after March 1 my longest drive for work will be from milwaukee to madison. Yep got the transfer to Director of Central Office operation for SE WI. Yep I will have all the guy and gals that just flip a switch to make your phone work. Now I just have to finish the 07 reveiws for the managers in 13 states I have now. This week I did all the "drive to" locations and spent a lot of time on the roads.

Things I noticed

If you are a fan of the greatful dead is there a rule that states you must have at least 4 bumper sticker pledging your allegiance

Listening to the radio while driving around I learned that Hillairys health plan would not included federal employees or teacher’s health groups. Is it because she believes all teachers should be federal employees as well. This is an idea that Alan Keyes has brought up many times. I hate to say it but I completely agree. It would take the burden off the local tax payer to meet heath care demands and allow the money from salaries and benefits to go to books and buildings. It would bring greater equality to inter city schools that have little funding for salaries. It would also do away with some local control and go to state control. That is were the heads will roll. You may only have a handful of administration managers per state instead of a few hundred with a few per school district. The guest on the show used the state of California, of course a large state. He had the list of certified procurement managers in the state that included state, county, city and villages that total 610. The best count for the public school system is 1350. Yep the schools have more than twice as many.

Another radio shows was about home selling and tips. They did a compare and contrast 1998 – 2008.
A couple things
1998 - A spa or hot tub was a big attraction to home buyer
2008- A hot tub is a couple hundred dollars worth of maintenance
1998 – A homeowners association worked to keep property values high
2008 – Nobody wants to ever have to deal with a Homeowners group, big negative
1998 – A big yard 20 miles outside of major population center a plus
2008 – 20 miles out and you are lucky to get dial up connection and gas is how much.

The funniest one was a lady doing a show about advice to give your teens about what is real in the world. That we should not judge the world from wikipedia there was a part to tell your teens that the sex that is depicted online in porn sites is over dramatized and not health behavior. Take her at her word I guess.

Education is local business. It is the only way to control costs.

The federal Dept of Education has made education worse.

Educators need to be in some way held accountable by the local populace.

Also it is not the business of one locality to subsidize others. Inner city kids can get a fine education at many high quality parental choice schools for a fraction of the cost of a bad education at a government school.

So jim you are ok with the unions packing the school boards and driving up taxes to you. Thats odd I thought you were better than that. This would take nothing away from the local school systems running your schools expept for the federal dollars would be paying for some of the best benefit packages in the country not you directly. Kinda like medicare
