Took a look at the new bmx track

Well I was in elkhorn this afternoon and stopped at the Walworth county fairgrounds when I seen the doors open. There were two guys doing some work inside and I ask if I could go in and look at the track. Of course they didn't care as long as I didn't screw with their break. Track is pretty cool a bit different than last year. The rhythm section looks a bit more streched out this year. The doubles look a bit tamer as well. Can wait, less than 2 weeks away.

Last trip to the farm

This Sunday I went to the farm for the last time. Let me explain. My grandparents lived on a old farmstead in Franklin for 50 years. I never remember it being a farm. When I was born the farming was done. To me it was a bmx course and two different motocross tracks two ponds for swimming huge tree forts and just a ton of land for screwing around. I shot my first deer bowhunting there, ran a small trap line. Learned to use the animal that were on the land. This was years before Franklin had ifs first subdivision of mansions. It also turned out to be a great place to have 400 or so high schoolers over a graduation party. I spent many many weeks each summer over there cutting grass and helping my grandma and countless hours racing around the moto tracks. I would bet I have ridden over a thousand miles on those tracks since I was 5 years old. Sitting there Sunday it became very clear it will soon all be gone and the city of Franklin will have a few more 4300 square feet or large homes in there tax base. There would be no more holiday dinners with the adults at one table the the grandkids at another. There would be not more strawberry fields. No more roar of the cycles charging over the plateau in to the triples and back along the driveway into the woop section. I did however take out the cornerpost from the stairwell for memories. I am sure every mark on the 120 year old post has a story. I could not let that be knock down with everything else.

Number 3 on the way with BMX

Well replacement frame #3 is on the way. The whole deal, front and rear. Now do I sell it or ride it until it breaks. If the damn bike didn't ride and climb better than any other FS out there it would be a easy decision. We will see how thing go. Well the word is the bmx track at Walworth is done. Unlike MTB junkies they make everyone wait until the first race Nov 4 to put a tire on it. Hope all goes well that day for Josh, myself I could care less, it is just a great diet for the winter. Josh however is really looking forward to it and I hope he doesn't get smoked every moto.

Leading up to the weekend

Well I took the day off Friday for my birthday and to get some stuff accomplished for once that didn't involve a bike event, sorta. First I went to the elkhorn dmv, somewhere I missed a turned and ended up in the dmv in mexico. Don't get me wrong there is nothing wrong with being a person of color but when 4 of the 5 lines are dedicated for bi lingual helpers in elkorn wi. Something wasn't adding up. Then back home and time to clean up the basement. I was amazing how much crap I had saved. For example, I don't have one mt bike in the house that has tubes, but I had at least 20 used tubes; thrown out. I had 3 broken seat post: thrown out. Then I went through all the old tires: throw out 12 or so old tires. What else, old pedals, spokes shift and brake housing, and one old seat. Then I got the junk box were old bike stuff gets lost. I ended up get rid of a ton of old waterbottles, had to be at least 30. Then I dug out a bunch of old socks a old hydration bladder and a moldy jersey all in the trash. So the workshop is clean again, sorta. Then it was time to go shopping for food and beer, after 4 cases of beer and 20 or so bags of snacks we were ready to go. So then we headed up to the bike shop, Pedal Moraine and returned the broken fuel for replacement again. Then we stopped in the new cabals One word holy crap Yogi they got everything. Hit applebees on the way home and eat some grub. Headed home and went to bed. Woke up saturday, packed up the camper and took to my parents for the winter. Came home and set up the house for the quest for my party. First guest arrived at 5 pm and the other 50 came shortly after. I want to thank everyone for coming, even got some fatty snacks to stay in clyde comp from Russell and Coop. Bubba and Jay brought out the kids and enjoyed little fire. Dan Kutz made sure no one was cold around the fire. I ended up stay up till 2:30 am and burned all the wood and drank all the lakefront brew. Sunday woke up and steam cleaned the rugs and just laid very low.

Stepped up - blew up and the season is over

That sums up the whole race. First mistake was not eating all morning. I was going to eat but left my ham on toast sandwiches in the microwave at home. So I ate nothing all day except two shot of hammergel at the start. I took of pretty fast I was 8th going into the woods and we had no back ups. I was pretty amazed by the lack of ST tracks of some of the comp riders. The second lap Russell got around and I stuck to is wheel all the way to the sand pit an the fence. I ended in the fence and slowed down the top 2 elite guys. I was still going ok at the log jump on the third lap. I was told Russell was 30 seconds in front. I pickedup the pace and picked off a couple of riders third lap and was setting up a attack up stairway to heaven and, POW I pulled a Bonk out of the air that would have taken Superman down. I fought off the vomit and ran up the Equalizer and thought I was done. I regrouped and started the last lap. I was whipped, I should have just quit. I made it to the creek crossing and Greg went around and I tried to step it up to stay with him. I had nothing I was completely empty. I had rider after rider passing me. Scott passed my just before equalizer and third place was gone. Now I just needed to finish. I must have looked really Sh!tty, the smoking guy asked me about ten times if I was Ok and If I could make it to the finish. For all that I finished not dead last and got LOTW from The Shed Master. Well the first weekend in November brings the start of BMX racing.
