Its BMX baby

Well it has been a little while since the last post. All has been very low key, my right leg is still on break. That's a week off now, I am gonna giver hell and see if she holds together. It really sucks getting sidelined in the end stretch of the year because it so easy to say screw it and do some yard work. Well Wednesday brought the first official practice at Milwaukee BMX. Josh made his debut on the hemi. The first lap was a train wreck. He was yelling he won't go down the hill, he would hit the breaks hard and stop in the middle of the jumps and fall down. Thanks to Russell and my running around the track, his fears cleared up after 5 laps. Two hours later I was forcing him of the track in the dark. He loved it, he flipped over the bars, looped it out, and crashed a couple dozen times. So all I heard on the way home was, when are we going back. Well that was yesterday, It was a open house for the track with the city. Josh did a bunch of solid laps and won a set of Sun rims in a raffle. We we have some work to do to get josh to stand up more while riding. I am sure it will all come together before racing starts at Elkhorn in November.

Sand hole to shore of sand or O2S 2006

I feel sorry for all the farmers in the UP, it was drier then a popcorn fart up there. The motel owner told us they are more then 8 inches below rain fall this summer. We seen a lake that all the piers were out of the water. So yes it was going to be dusty, right. Well that was a understatement. About 8 miles in I had to lose the glasses. The sweat and dust made a nice smear on the lens so I took them off, big mistake. My eye had more red saturday night than white. Then about 25 miles in, the bad right leg was back from the week before. I pedaled through the cramp for the next 20 miles. I had to walk every hill for the last10 miles. It was so pathetic, I was averaging 18 mph at 25 mile mark before the craps started and my overall was 13 mph and 3:29 for 48 miles. After the race I walked across the street and jumped in Lake Superior, wow that was cold. I dove in and both hammies cramped, but in 60 degree water the cramps go away fast. After ten minutes in the cold clean water I felt fine. Only if evert race ended at a super clean beach. Of coarse Shelly was waiting after completing the soft rock 28 miles race. She had a very respectable time considering she never even rode 20 miles off road. She did have one mishap, a crash into some thorny ash. So she has some puncture wounds in her arms that bruised very nicely. She did say it was a great time and a big boost in her riding abilities to do much shorter wors races. After getting home you realize there is a red crust on everything for the granite dust of the roads. Well one month to the 40, time to get the leg fixed and some big long rides in at the kettle.

Lost weekend

They say you have a race or two a year that just doesn't come together no matter what you do. Man Sunday at Calumet was one of those races. I started cramping a mile into the race and I could not shake it. I drank a whole bottle of water 15 minutes into the race then I was bloated and the side ache came on. I was ready to just hand in the tag and take a DNF. Then Kevin started yelling to grab his wheel and hold on. So I it took all I could must to hold his tire for the whole lap. By the start of the last lap the side ache was gone and we were passing riders one after another. I could climb anything and not hurt but any high cadence and the cramps came back.

Shelly had a solid race, their lap was much wetter and slower. She did a good job keeping the wheels down and for that she brought home another 3rd place. With that she has a good chance of taking 1st in her age group for the year. Then monday I jumped on the bike and rode 40miles and had no problem with the leg at all. So I have not a clue what was happening sunday. Well a couple of days till Ore 2 shore in Marquette MI, she is doing the 28 mile and I am doing the 48 mile race. So more ride and less posting till next week.

Too hot and too funny

Well it 100 damn degrees again. No riding just swimming for the 2 day.

Well there is this fella at work who put 20 inch Spreewells on his 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo SS. Yes it did look a bit ridiculous. I often noticed the tire stuck out past the wheel wells and there was only about a inch between the tire and said wheel well. So this morning when I seen both rear quarter panel destroyed and the trunk lid bent up and two spares I almost pissed my pants laughing so hard. I called down to his buddy to ask what happened. Not sure I could talk to the owner without laughing at him. He was traveling south bound on 43 at approx 70 miles and hour when he hit a bump in the road. The tires tore into the car, ripped the fenders apart and destroyed the tires and rims. It gets better. It turns out his insurance company will not cover it because the tires were improperly sized for the car per the manufactures guidelines.
